In a complex environment like Google Next with numerous operators throughout so many rooms, it's very easy to accumulate defects from human error and equipment failure. The job is to make sure that through process and training, the operators know their work and are able to get a great result every time.

In each breakout room, there is a PTZ operator and an ATEM operator behind the desk. The PTZ operator handles camera adjustment and the ATEM op makes a live line cut.

A live feed is sent back to a master control, one of the multiviewer feed and one of the line cut PGM output. The multiviewer allows the production coordination team to spot check the activity in the room, while the PGM feed acts as the primary recording of the event.

Edits take time, and for good reason, but the same intent and work go into a live edit. If you want to get a final video out to the world as fast as possible, there's really no other way to go than live to tape. This increase in speed is not without risk however. Live editing is far more prone to timing missteps so having a method of correcting these is critical.

The ATEMs in use are ISO 8 systems, which record high quality iso feeds of every camera with a copy of the house audio mix embedded. These recordings are the backup plan. If an error needing correction occurs in the live edit, the recordings are used to correct it.

The pipeline is meant to enable ultra fast turnaround (under 24 hours) while ensuring preventable errors are prevented.
